A Father for Christmas

I am very happy that I was given a copy of
Rachelle Ayala's "A Father for Christmas" to read and review.

This book was a really nice, easy read that was full of hope and a bit of romance, that made you want to believe in Christmas miracles.

The book is set in California during the Christmas season. Right away you have to know that your heart strings are going to be "pulled", but it is still a definite must read.

Bree, who is 4 years old, doesn't understand that Santa can't make every dream come true, so she asks him to bring her a father for Christmas.  Of course Santa "pwo-missed" he would be under the tree ....

Kelly, Bree's mother, is a single mother who has had her fair share of bad luck. She was an investment banker who made a mistake, a mistake that cost her everything. Everything that is except Bree, but she doesn't believe that a father is what Bree needs.

Tyler, is a war hero, who thinks he is anything but a hero.  He has returned back to the United States with his own struggles, including PTSD.  It is unfortunate that he doesn't believe he is worthy of anything.

The three of them become part of a Christmas miracle, that will heal the broken spirit of both Kelly and Tyler, complements of a Santa's wish, that should melt even the coldest of hearts.  I told you it would be pulling at your heart strings.

As I was reading the story, I found myself hoping that Kelly and Tyler would get together and stay together no matter how difficult it would be.  You just want them to let their guards down and learn to trust again.

The book is well written.  Although you believe you know how it will end, you don't want to put this book down until the end.  A Father for Christmas is a really nice book that is suitable for young adults, as there are no questionable chapters, and makes you believe in love and forgiveness.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free from Rachelle Ayala, using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Happy Halloween 2014

You just know I had to stop and wish you all

I hope it is a great celebration for each of you ... but I did have to pass this on so that everyone will be safe on this holiday ....

Don't be like this witch!

But you can still be having lots of fun .....

Share the fun with the kids.

You remember going out Trick or Treating right?
Was a great time to be a kid.

Be safe out there!

Healthy Lung Month

Did you know that October was Healthy Lung Month?
I didn't but now that I have the some facts, I know that having and keeping your lungs healthy is not just because you were blessed with "healthy" genes.

Did you know that you breathe 11,000 liters of air each and every day?
I didn't - but WOW that is a lot of air!  Or that children and women breathe faster than men?  I did know that about children, but didn't know about women ... but you would have thought I would have, I mean I am a woman.  So if you are like me, you have already learned something from this post.

There are all kinds of things that you can do or steer away from, that will help keep your lungs healthy and thereby allowing YOU to stay around and influence others to do the same.
Just the very simple act of minimizing or eliminating your exposure to air pollution, avoiding toxic substances or stopping the use of tobacco products, or even better to never start smoking, will help keep your lungs healthy.  See I told you there are things that you can do to keep your lungs "clean".

I'm sure you have seen or heard those commercials/ad spots for Mesothelioma. For a while I thought every time we turned on the TV we heard at least one of those spots, but to be honest, I don't think I really paid attention.  But now that I have seen some of the facts, it is really scary!

There are so many ways, innocent ways, that you can be exposed to the Number One cause of Mesothelioma, that we need to be aware of.

There is a possible exposure to asbestos in commercial products, through commercial and industrial job sites and even our Military Vets were possibly exposed.  Prior to the 1970's asbestos was used in all kinds of construction materials - I remember seeing pipes in my house (originally built in the 20's and remodeled/added on to for years) wrapped in what was "assumed" to be an asbestos product.  I think that we all must take control and make sure that we are not exposed to asbestos or if we must, that we are protected and our families are protected from secondary exposure.

Because Mesothelioma can have a very long latency time period (as long as 35 - 40 years) the baby boomers and their families are those that are probably at greatest risk.  We didn't really know the extent of the potential damage/problems with asbestos during those years that so many were exposed.

I think that you need to know the symptoms and treatment so that we can be pro-active in seeking treatment.  But PLEASE don't become a hypochondriac when you see the symptoms.

Remember as you are reading them, that just because you have a particular symptom, it doesn't mean you have mesothelioma.  There are many symptoms of mesothelioma that are also common to other illnesses, which is one of the reasons that this is so hard to diagnose in the early stages.

Be informed, be vigilant, be proactive in your own health and that of your family and loved ones.  Remember that the lines of communication between you and your doctor are crucial.  He/She will help you get answers to questions that you need to ask. so that you can understand what is happening and how to go forward at each step of diagnosis and treatment along the way.

Need more information?
Check out the Mesothelioma blog where you can also request a free comprehensive Mesothelioma information packet.

Southwest Cheese Spread

This reminds me of the Pimiento Cheese Spread that you can find in the South.  But if you are looking for something towards the holiday season or something towards "happy hour" snacks.

Southwest Cheese Spread
The Power Chef™ System makes it so easy to pull off.

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 1–1½ tbsp. Southwest Chipotle Seasoning Blend

Place pimiento into base of Power Chef™ System fitted with blade attachment, replace cover and pull cord 2–3 times to chop. Add mayonnaise, cream cheese, shredded cheese and seasoning blend to Power Chef™ base. Cover and pull cord to blend until smooth.

Place seal on base and refrigerate until cold, at least 1 hour and up to 3 days. Serve with crackers or on a sandwich.

I LOVE going to Korean BBQs, when I was working for an international export company we always did a BBQ for our holiday celebrations that was so awesome.  This recipe brings back those memories.  I'm going to try this one for the holidays this year and see how the rest of my family feels about a nice beef BBQ or maybe some boneless pork .. mmmm

Classic Peppermint Bark

Personally I think this is the easiest recipe that has stood the test of time. I know as long as I can remember this has been available around the holidays ..... now you can make it yourself and really look like a super star!

I really think this could be one of the easier recipes that everyone loves around the holidays.

If you have one of Tupperware's Stack Cookers and their Silicon Wonder Mat then this would be a breeze to make but tastes like it took you forever to make!

All of the Tupperware Products noted in this recipe, can be purchased from my Tupperware Site  and you never know, you could end up being my mystery hostess and end up with a few more pieces of Tupperware from me ...

Its ok to be determined

Sometimes I think there is a bias or negative take on people who are determined to get ahead.
I have heard some pretty nasty comments about women who are "driven" to get ahead.
I'm pretty sure you have heard some of those very same comments.

But I disagree.
Getting ahead is just this ...

Just because you want to get ahead - doesn't mean you are bad
Just because you push yourself - doesn't mean you are bad
It just means you are determined to get ahead
so you can to do better for yourself and your family.

Just like you are suppose to do!

What Goes Around

I saw these and thought they really went hand in hand,
and before the spelling police get me ... I know whoever made this one for thelightworkersacademy.com spelled "Practice" wrong ... the message is still the same.

Kind of like Karma was calling to me to pass these along to you so that you too be able to take these to heart and put into practice.

So what do you think?
Is this not a perfect explanation of Karma and why we should ALWAYS practice kindness in our every day lives?

Perfect definition of a Friend

I got this originally from a friend, a friend that I think of as a member of my family so she is much more than "just" a friend, but I think this is the perfect definition of a friend.

Friends

They love you,
But they're not your lover.

They care for you,
But they're not from your family.

They're ready to share your pain,
But they're not your blood relation.

They are ... FRIENDS

A True Friend,
Scolds like a DAD,
Cares like a MUM,
Teases like a SISTER,
Irritates like a BROTHER,

And finally,
Loves like a Lover.

Be sure to share this with your good friends,
Make sure that they KNOW
that you consider them a Friend!

Mint Chocolate Cookie Pie (a little slice of heaven)

I saw this one from Tupperware and thought OMG it's heaven on a plate!  If you are looking for something to make for dessert that will have everyone oooohing and aaaahhing THIS is definitely it!

Mint Chocolate Cookie Pie
Chocolate mint is a crowd-pleasing flavor profile, combining the freshness of mint with the decadence of chocolate—it’s a win-win combination! This pie is worth what it takes to make the crust and filling. The end result is pure deliciousness.
  • 10 oz./285 g package chocolate-covered mint cookies
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
  • 8 oz./225 g package cream cheese, softened, room temperature
  • ¼ cup of our Chocolate Dessert Blend
  • 1½ cups heavy whipping cream

Preheat oven to 350°F/175°C.
Place 2 cups (about 26 cookies) of cookies in base of Quick Chef® Pro System. Cover and turn handle to process until finely chopped (should yield about 1½ cups chopped).
Stir in melted butter and transfer to a 9-in./23 cm pie plate. Press crumbs firmly into bottom and up the sides, creating as even a layer as possible. Bake 10 minutes. Set aside to cool completely.
Place remaining cookies in base of Quick Chef® Pro System. Cover and turn handle to process until coarsely chopped.
In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese and dessert blend with Silicone Spatula until fully combined.
Pour cream into base Power Chef™ with Whip Accessory. Cover and turn the handle until the cream forms soft peaks. Do not over whip.
Fold whipped cream into cream cheese mixture and blend gently.
Add chopped cookies and gently fold until fully incorporated.
Spread mixture into cooled pie crust, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Serve chilled.
All of the products used in this recipe can be purchased on My Tupperware Site

Oh and right now we have our Pie Keeper/Taker and Individual Pie Wedges available in the Mid-October brochure (Oct 11 - Nov 14) that haven't been available for a few years.  Check those out and grab your set today from my Tupperware Site.

#CarSunshadeJumboBestForFrontWindshields

I'm sure you have thought why couldn't someone come up with a good product to protect your car and you from the sun while it is parked in a parking lot.  I know I have tried many over the years, but never really found anything that did the trick.  Most of the time they ended up in the trunk after about a week.

I will admit I was a little surprised when I opened the package I received of the X-Shade Car Sunshades.  I guess it was because it was so light, compact and thin, you had to wonder how this could possibly do what they claim.

I popped open the package to find a nice "sleeve" to keep your sunshade in when its not in use.  Already, I thought that was a bonus.

When I opened the sleeve and took out the Sunshade, I was shocked at how big it was ... it literally covered the front hood of my car!  Now that is a BIG Sunshade.

Putting it in the front windshield is a breeze - it easily conforms to the windshield without having "gaps" where the sun could be coming in.  No clips or ties or flap holders needed.

As you can see, there is room still to expand so if your car is "wider" than mine, you could easily use this one, but if you car is a little "narrower" you can overlap the circular panels even more than I did.

These Sunshades are a solar shield that keeps the car cooler by reflecting the sun away from the car with its reflective metallic surface.  It says that they are made from a premium metallic reflective polyester material that blocks up to 99% of the suns damaging UV rays.

I can see this being a huge benefit in the summer when the sun can turn your car into an oven while it sits in the parking lot.
I can't tell you how many times I have gotten into the car and burned the backs of my legs on the seats (love leather seats but hate that burn) or felt like I had no fingerprints anymore because the steering wheel was "on fire" all because the sun beats into the car.

Because it is so lightweight and folds into its own pouch, I can see this being in your carry on bag when you travel.
Oh and it is really easy to fold up and put back in the pouch - fold in half, twist, tuck in side flaps, slide attached elastic band around the package, squeeze slightly and slip into the pouch.

Yes I did put it back into this pouch in less than 2 minutes ... so it will definitely be easy for anyone to get it back in the pouch to keep it clean and ready for use day after day!

I really wish I had gotten this earlier this year .... like in the Spring, so that I could have used it all Spring and Summer and not just getting to try it out now in the Fall.  But I will say that this little baby will be in my car for years to come, sitting very pretty in my windshield when I'm not in the car.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free from OT-Online using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

#Surpahs Shiny Small Lightweight Digital Bathroom Scale Review

I received this beautiful Surpahs Shiny Small and Lightweight Digital Bathroom Scale (yes, I said beautiful, and I bet you never thought you would hear those words out of a woman's mouth) from Surpahs and have to say it is PERFECT. There are so many great feature, that make this super easy to use, yet accurate!  And yes I picked the pink - for a number of reasons but hey its Breast Cancer Awareness Month - PINK was perfect.  It is also a great color so all around it was a PERFECT choice for me.

I really like that this baby can be used for 4 individuals, all with their own pre-sets, that will give both weight and BMI with a nice lite blue backlight.  It is a soft display that doesn't make you cringe before you see the numbers!  You have your choice of a white or pink base (as you can see I did choose the pink) that is a nice "small" size (11"X 9.6"X .09") that works well in a small bathroom or in my case, my office.

It has a great G-Sensor patent-pending technology that is embedded in the 4 TPU skid-proof stands (that would be the "feet") that gives a more stable and accurate measurement. Yes it is a very stable scale for everyone.  AND it measures from 11 lbs to 330lbs!  So it really could be a whole family scale.

Ok so don't be looking at the number cause although I didn't hit the 330, I obviously need to find a good weight loss program, but that's for another day/review.

I was "crouching" a bit to take the picture so my toes are "scrunched" and my one foot is not centered on the scale, but it has an ample glass base to stand that is not very high off the ground, so little kids and older adults can still use this without fear of falling off.  It really is a great scale for everyone.

Once you set up your "pre-set", every time you want to check your weight (in my case it could be every day or twice a day) it has this really great "sense-on" feature, that starts to measure the minute you step on the scale!  No more "tap" to get it to wake up, and be ready to go.  It's a step on get your reading and step off. The sense-on technology is another one of their patent-pending features.

Oh and since it has this smart gravity point detection and auto-calibrates once it is sitting on the ground ... I can put it out of sight in my office (or in the cabinet in a tiny bathroom) and know that when I take it out, the weight I get is true. Now sometimes I may not like this "true" weight ... but I know its not a "guesstimate" that I think some of the other tap on scales are because of the constant calibration before you step on it.

If you would like to have this baby in your home, and start getting accurate reading of both your weight and BMI, you should be grabbing this offer before its gone, so that you can enjoy this product as much as I do!

It's the Mid October Tupperware Brochure!!

There are some really really FANTASTIC things available in the Mid October Tupperware Brochure available on my Tupperware Site that would be great for the Holidays.

I am LOVING the kids toy ideas and may be picking them up just to keep for when I have grand kids to share them with!  And the little pie slice keepers ... oh yeah I am all over those.  Keep your pie slices fresh and "uncrushed" in a lunch box ... oh yeah.

The pie taker is great - in fact I don't think I have ever seen these for sale.  I did see one that someone had a few years ago who said she had the pie keeper/taker for so many years she couldn't remember when she got it.

And folks the Spaghetti Dispensers are a must have to make your own DIY gifts for teachers or have on hand gifts.  You can make all kinds of things (like Sand Art Brownies, shown at right or Taco Soup) that will store beautifully in your pantry in these and then you will have dessert or lunch/dinner any time with very little fuss.  I have a few for just that reason ... and may be grabbing more for cookie recipes or more!

Don't forget, you can always shop at my Tupperware Site from the comfort of your own home, in your PJs if you want ... Shop now while you are thinking about it.
