Are you ready for 2014?

I know in many ways I am.  I'm not sure if 2013 was so bad or if it was just not what we all expected.

So here is to 2014 ........ and how I intend to start the new year.

I hope that by the end of 2014 I have a wonderful book to look back on with a big smile!

How about you?  Are you ready?

Beautiful just the way we are.

I think this one is perfect for all those women out there (and I am including the "young" women and "girls" when I say this) who think they need to change something to be beautiful.

I think we spend too much time thinking that we would be beautiful if:

  • we could just lose 10 pounds
  • our hips were smaller
  • our boobs was bigger
  • we were taller
  • we were shorter
  • should I go on or have you figured out what's "next"?

JUST THE WAY WE ARE

Happy New Year's Eve to all of us - let's not go crazy with our New Year's Resolutions.
Let's just strive to be the best that we can because we ARE beautiful!

Weight Loss for the New Year? How about you? Are you in?

I believe you have already seen, if you follow my blog, that I don't do New Year's Resolutions.  Well not anymore.  I use to make them every year, just like everyone else.  That was until one of my girl friends (a work buddy too) and I decided we would make a New Years Resolution together - you know to help us keep it ........ Yup you guessed it - we didn't even last 24 hours, and ended up laughing till we cried.

SO no more New Years Resolutions for me.  HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I don't want to change things. It doesn't mean I'm not going to try to get healthier in this up coming new year.  And it definitely doesn't mean I am not going to try to lose some of this "extra" weight I have accumulated in the past couple of years.

So without making that NY Resolution
I'm asking for your help ......

  • What have you been doing to get control of your weight?
  • What has worked for you?
  • What definitely didn't work?

I know there are all kinds of things out there, all kinds of plans, programs, pills, etc.
I know because I have, throughout the years, tried so many things I don't even remember what I've done.
I've seen all the "celebrities" who support/hawk/promote different methods - but I am definitely NOT a celebrity, I don't have someone coming to clean my house, make my food, clean up after mega preparations and I definitely do NOT have an unlimited budget ...

But now I want to be serious (not that I haven't been serious before) and get rid of this extra weight once and for all. But the LAST thing I want to even think about is any of those "medical" interventions.  I'm not interested in Gastric Bypass or the Lap Band Surgeries.

Believe me I don't think there is anything wrong with those interventions IF you and your doctor believe it is what is best for you, it's just that its not something that I want to even think about or consider.

So tell me, what have you tried:

What were your results and thoughts on any of these plans?
Or any other plan that you followed are following?

How about those capsule/pills/liquids?

I am going to do something, even if it means I have to do more "special" cooking so that both my hubby and I can lose weight and get healthier.  Could even help with his snoring (which at least with our new bed I don't hear much during the night) or what he tells me is my snoring (but I still say I don't snore).

I also know that exercise must be part of this plan, whatever I decide to do.  I've got some "walking" DVD's that I can use and a few "yoga type" and "dance type" DVD's as well.

I've even been "toying" with the idea of trying the Total Gym that has been used (promoted and tweeked) by Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley.

So if anyone has tried this - let me know what you think of that one too!

Tupperware's Big January Sales get YOU Organized!

I'm sure you all know that I am a Tupperware Consultant.  And hopefully you also know that if there is ever anything that you want to purchase, there is always a party going on - link on the top right sidebar.  Or you can message me and I will help you will anything Tupperware - purchase or warranty.

What you may not know is how much I really LOVE my modular mates.

I have found that my cabinets actually hold more AND I can find all those things that we have in the cabinets without having it get lost until we have 15 or more going to waste!

I still have a ways to go until I am completely organized, but as luck would have it ... Tupperware is having a SALE on all those wonderful Modular Mates and Modular Mates Sets right now!!

January has always been Modular Mates Month and this year is no exception ... except it starts TODAY

You can purchase Modular Mates in "pieces" or in "sets" depending on what it is you want to do or how much of each you need.

If you have smaller/older cabinets, you may find that the square or oval sets work better for you.

Or if you have newer, deeper cabinets the rectangular or super ovals would work perfectly for you.

My kitchen cabinets have not been changed in any way, shape or form since I moved into my home in 1981 (holy moly that's a long time) and the supers fit just fine in my cabinets.

Because I have very little cabinet space and almost no closet space, I purchased those Modular storage cabinets (you know the ones - you put them together with a few screws and thin brad type nails to hold the "cardboard backing" in place) and have found that even in those, the supers fit just fine.

And just to add to the wonderful sale pieces available this month, we also have some great things for Valentine's Day.  These pieces are on sale until January 31, 2014 so even those should be ready to wrap before you need to worry about what to get for your Valentine!

And if you would like some pink for Valentine's Day --- we have that covered too!

I LOVE my microwave cereal bowls ... I take mine with me (love that seal) so I don't have to eat and run before work.

Don't forget, you can start ordering these great items and so much more on my Tupperware Site  or you can click on the link for the current online party on the top right sidebar.

Either way, you can end up with some great pieces that will keep you organized and actually help you cut down on over-buying and "stale" items in your cabinets.  It's the best of all worlds!

Tupperware and You ............ PERFECT Together!

The Old Cowboy and Heaven

An old cowboy was riding his trusty horse followed by his faithful dog along an unfamiliar road. The cowboy was enjoying the new scenery, when he suddenly remembered dying, and realized the dog beside him had been dead for years, as had his horse.  Confused, he wondered what was happening, and where the trail was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall that looked like fine marble.  At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch topped by a golden letter "H" that glowed in the sunlight.  Standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like gold.

He rode toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
Parched and tired out by his journey, he called out:  'Excuse me, where are we?'

'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered.
'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked.
'Of course, sir.  Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up.'

As the gate began to open, the cowboy asked: 'Can I bring my partners, too?'
'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.'

The cowboy thought for a moment, then turned back to the road and continued riding,
his dog trotting by his side.

After another long ride, at the top of another hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a ranch gate that looked as if it had never been closed.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

'Excuse me,' he called to the man.  'Do you have any water?'  'Sure, there's a pump right over there.  Help yourself.'

'How about my friends here?' the traveler gestured to the dog and his horse.
'Of course!  They look thirsty, too,' said the man.

The trio went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with buckets beside it.  The traveler filled a cup and the buckets with wonderfully cool water and took a long drink, as did his horse and dog.

When they were full, he walked back to the man who was still standing by the tree.

'What do you call this place?' the traveler asked.
'This is Heaven,' he answered.
'That's confusing,' the traveler said.  'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.'

'Oh, you mean the place with the glitzy, gold street and fake pearly gates?  That's hell.'

'Doesn't it make you angry when they use your name like that?'

'Not at all.  Actually, we're happy they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind...'

Sometimes, we wonder why friends forward things to us without writing a word.  Or maybe why bloggers sometimes pass on things that they see, either online or in their own emails, again without saying much or maybe nothing at all.  Maybe this explains it: When you're busy, but still want to keep in touch, you can forward emails.  When you have nothing to say, but still want to keep in contact, you can forward jokes.

When you have something to say, but don't know exactly how, you can forward stuff.

A 'forward' lets you know you're still remembered, still important, still cared about.
So the next time you get a 'forward,' don't think of it as just another joke.
Realize you've been thought of today and your friend on the other end just wanted to send you a smile.

P..S.: You're welcome at my watering hole anytime.

Life is short...
forgive quickly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably...
and never regret anything that made you smile.

I got this in my email recently from someone who is pretty sweet.
She keeps things moving along at work and always has a smile or a kind word for everyone.  This one just made me smile so I had to share it with you, because I thought of you!

Just ONE day.

This is just perfect, sometimes we forget the value in one day.
Take each day as it comes and make the most of that one day!

You just never know what can happen in just ONE day ........

and that could be the deciding factor
in what happens each day after that!

Merry Christmas to all ........ hoping that everything you wanted and needed will be found under that tree. But please remember, its not all about the gifts, although they are nice.  It's about family and friends and being together.

2 Boxes ... God's Gift to you and me

'Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance!'

Please keep it going.

This has been going since Dec. 1, 2000.
Send your friends here to visit, so they can see this too!

God's Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.
He said,

'Put all your sorrows in the black box,

And all your joys in the gold.'

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,

But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before
.

With curiosity, I opened that black box,
I wanted to find out why,
And I sa
w in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused,
'I wonder where my sorrows could be!'
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
'My child, they're all here with me..'

I asked God, why He gave me the boxes, why the gold and the black with the hole?

'My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings in,
The black is for you to be able to let your sorrows go'

We should consider all of our friends a blessing.
Yes, a blessing that we have found each other in this vast world we live in.
Share this with a friend today to let them know you are thinking of them,
That they are a joy in your life.
A ball is a circle, no beginning, no end.
It keeps us together like our Circle of Friends.

But the treasure inside for you to see,
Is the treasure of friendship you've granted to me.

Today I pass the friendship ball to you.
Pass it on to someone who is a friend to you...

Number, Number - Do YOU have YOUR #SleepNumber?

I am very sure you have seen or heard the advertisements for the Sleep Number Bed - I know I had.  Some were even cute.  Recently my husband and I decided that after about 25 years, it was time for us to replace our bed.  When we were started talking about it, we were driving away from a mall after doing some Christmas Shopping ... I know my husband doing shopping?? be still my heart.  I said it was definitely time for a new bed, where should we go?  His ONLY comment ... Sleep Number!

As you can see, unless you knew it was a Sleep Number Bed I bet you wouldn't know it was anything different, until you sleep on it.
I have to say from the start, I was a little skeptical.  I was afraid he had bought into the commercials but agreed that we would go check them out.  We went to a local Sleep Number store and right away saw the differences.  Once they knew we were interested ... we both got our personal Sleep Number.

We checked out 3 different types of beds and settled on 1.  We decided on the adjustable bed.  One of the things we had discussed was using a bed skirt instead of purchasing the "hard" surround base which they neglected to tell us would really not work well with the adjustable base since the bed is "screwed on" to the frame and then the frame is "screwed on" to the headboard, but other than that ... I really am happy with our new bed.

We not only got the bed with the adjustable frame, we also got the mattress cover, and 2 pillows, which all together was not cheap,, even on sale  BUT we also got another great deal ... how about financing your new bed over 4 years at ZERO percent financing?  Yup that's what we got.  Told you great deal.

As they were putting the bed together (other than the frame it all comes in pieces) I thought the bed would actually be lower than our original bed ... it just looked like it sat "lower" on the bookcase headboard that we had.  Once it was all put together and the bed inserts were inflated, we realized that it is actually higher and not just because it is new vs old.   As you can see though, you don't need a step stool to get into bed - really looks like any other bed.  I mean, can you tell, just by looking at this picture that it is a Sleep Number Bed?  Can you tell that we can raise the head or foot section?  We can, but because it is a Queen and not a King, we can't lift my side or his - its both together - but that's really ok.

I know definitely that it is higher because my shoe keeper fits nicely UNDER the bed without touching the top (or is it the bottom) of the bed and I couldn't do that with the old bed.  Although it is higher, its not uncomfortably higher ... I can easily get in and out of bed without "jumping" and I'm just under 5'6".

I am going to try to "cut" down one of the bed skirts I already have to make a skirt that will work with the bed - my sewing machine will get some work "after" Christmas.  But until them ... it will continue to be the perfect "hiding place" for my shoes.

I have previously compressed discs in my back (not once but twice) so there are times that my back is really sore.  I can't tell you how many times I had gotten out of bed in the morning and just wanted to cry because my back hurt.  Since we have had our Sleep Number bed, I have yet to wake up feeling like that.  I have the ability to change my personal number whenever I want, but it has stayed in the range of 45 - 55, where my hubby has stayed at 55 since we got it almost 2 weeks ago.

With the adjustable frame feature, we can watch TV (of course the news) without having to have a ton of pillows or we can lift the foot section to help take some pressure off my back.  I use to think I was a semi side/stomach sleeper, but since we have gotten this bed, I find I really am a back sleeper.  And I have to say, hubby has said constantly ... I don't feel you move around during the night.  I have to agree with him.  I don't feel him get up during the night, which use to wake me up and he doesn't feel me come to bed late if I'm "creating" downstairs after he has gone to bed.

We usually don't give each other gifts during the year - we just buy what we need when we really need it.  We do usually buy each other something for Christmas - its the only "event" or "holiday" that we do purchase things specifically for.  We didn't set out to buy this for ourselves, and definitely not as a Christmas present - I know I've bought him something else that I knew he really really wanted, so he gets 2 presents this year.

But I really have to say,  this was the perfect Christmas present to ourselves.

So my advise to you ... check out Sleep Number Beds
and get YOUR Sleep Number Too!

Not Perfect

Yes ma'am
this one says it all

I am definitely NOT perfect .......
Not politically correct either

I hope that there is no one out there that thinks I am fake either,
especially since I try to be ME every day .....
not something that someone "thinks" I should be.

How about you ... are you perfect?

Because those are the MOST SUCCESSFUL

I hope that they will think I am that Best Friend ..........

So tell me - how many Successful Women do you have in your life?
Do you think they count you as one of these "best friends"?  I hope so.

Obstacles or Stepping Stones?

When you are looking for the positive or that silver lining, you believe this

When you only see the down side, the bad things then everything is an obstacle.

Cast off those black thoughts and concentrate on the positive .......
and look at any obstacle as the stepping stone to something BETTER!

Ben Stein's take on the "Holiday" Tree ...

I saw this the other day and thought AMEN!  I may not be "in your face" religious, but I do believe.

I was at a dinner a few nights ago and one of the speakers asked basically the same thing.
When did it become a bad thing to have a Christmas tree, sing Christmas Carols or anything else to celebrate the Christmas season?  I looked him right in the eye and said  it was when everyone had to be come "politically correct" so as to not offend others, but in the process we offended ourselves.  I am tired of being politically correct - hence I am not.  I am tired of worrying about offending someone because I want to say Merry Christmas not Happy Holidays.  It bothers me that when I go to a store the clerk MUST say Happy Holidays UNLESS I say Merry Christmas first (I've heard this more than once from retail people, including my daughter) - hence I say Merry Christmas whenever I can.

So I think this is perfect - Congratulations Mr Stein on voicing what MANY of us feel - its about time we all stand up and stop kissing the feet of those that are oppressing us!    Once again there seems to be a "brouhaha" over what to do with decorations this holiday season. There should be NO religious decorations on governmental sites.  We should even be calling the Christmas Tree the "Holiday Tree".  A few years ago this prompted CBS presenter, Ben Stein, to present this piece which I would like to share with you.  I believe it is still appropriate, and maybe even more so, this year.

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him as a CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.

My confession: I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejewelled trees, Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are, Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year.

It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu. If people want a nativity scene, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period.
I have no idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different:
This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Hurricane Katrina). Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response.
She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent events... terrorist attacks, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.
Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.
Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said okay.
Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves. Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out.
I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'
Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell.
Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.
Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.
Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace. Are you laughing yet?
Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.
Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit.
If not, then just discard it.... no one will know you did.
But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what a bad shape the world is in.

My Best Regards,
Honestly and respectfully,
Ben Stein

DO NOT believe everything

..........     you Think

I DEFINITELY believe this one ...

I think our worst critic is OURSELVES

We are forever believing those things that rattle around in our head.

We are forever putting ourselves in a bad place ...
You are too fat
You are too thin
You are too plain
You are ugly
You can't do that
You will never succeed

See I told you this was perfect
so today
Stop believing everything you think!

Nothing Nicer ....

Another reminder of what we should be looking for

Everyone can't be the "most beautiful", the "most handsome", the "most athletic" although if you listen to some of the "popular" kids (and adults) it seems that this is the only way to pick someone to "date" or "spend your life with".

I'd rather have someone who is there for me no matter what ....... especially since we never know "what" will be around the corner in life.

And after 32+ years, I think I found that.
How about you?  Do you have the person in your life?

Bacon Cheddar Puffs

I saw this on the Facebook Page of Aussie Tucker and thought holy crow these look really easy to make and would be fabulous finger food for holiday entertaining!

Ingredients
1 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
1 cup plain flour
4 large eggs
1 cup Mild Cheddar Cheese
8 slices bacon, cooked crisp, crumbled
1/2 tsp. onion salt or powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Method
Combine milk and butter in medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat until butter is melted and mixture is simmering.

Add flour all at once; continue to cook, stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon, until mixture forms a ball. Remove from heat.

Beat in 1 egg until mixture is smooth. Repeat with remaining eggs, adding just 1 egg at a time, beating until thoroughly combined. Add the cheese, bacon, and the rest of the ingredients.

Drop heaping teaspoons of mixture onto greased baking sheet. Bake in preheated 350F or 175C oven 25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature

Midlife Second Wife Giveaway

I have a blogger friend that I met in an online group for "mature" women (we say we are mature but sometimes well you know .... ) who has a wonderful blog The Midlife Second Wife.  One of the things I really find interesting or should I just say "cool" is that Marci is on The Huffington Post too!  Yes, there are some really really interesting bloggers out there that we can all read and become acquainted with.

I was checking out her blog this morning and saw this wonderful giveaway that I just KNEW you would want to be part of.

How about a possibility of winning:

Now you can only win 1 of these (but seriously any of these would be AWESOME), but they would be great to have or to give as a gift to someone so very deserving (hint hint) ....... don't you think?

Marci has been a Verizon Boomer Voices program and wanted to share these products with us.  Check out Marci's post and enter to win one of these great products BUT you want to hurry.

This raffle giveaway is open until NOON Eastern Time on December 18th so don't be dilly dallying!

Check out this post, Is It Better To Give Than To Receive? Find Out with this Verizon Wireless Raffle.  If you could let Marci know that I was the one to send you there ........ well that would be really awesome too

Start with Yourself

Sometimes it really is just this simple.

I know that I have been guilty of this myself - I'm looking for something to believe it.
Something to hang on to when things are a little more rough or difficult than I thought it would be, would be great to find just "hanging out" by my front door ..... but if I stopped and thought about it - all I need is right here inside me.

I CAN do whatever I set out to do if I only BELIEVE in MYSELF!

How about you?
Are you guilty of this or have you already learned what I have to keep reminding myself to do?

I know this is not posting on the "start" of the giveaway - but sometimes its better late than never!  I just happened to see this one and thought you would love to have one of these as much as I would.  But hurry - you need to enter at least once before Dec 14th!

And you know what they say --- sharing is caring!

The Hamilton Beach 6 Quart Programmable Stove top Slow Cooker comes with a die-cast aluminum cookware that goes on the stove top for easy browning (for those recipes that say "brown meat") and sauteing.  It's easy to finish prepping the meal by adding additional ingredients, setting the temperature and time and then walk away!
