Who holds the future?

Sometimes when things get to be much too hectic I start to think about what it would be like to slow down, have everything I want (not exactly sure what that all is but) and not have to rush around trying to juggle 55 things at once.  In other words, I think about what the future holds.

Admit it, it does happen to you too.  It's ok really, it happens to everyone at some point - they just don't always admit it.

I saw this the other day and just had to share.  No matter what your religion is, no matter what you believe, this resonates LOUD and CLEAR.

As the weekend rolls around, and we "weekend warriors" break out of the week long ties and search for our weekend persona, lets allow this to sink in and give us something to think about.  And then we can stop worrying about the future, about what's to come and just be.

What do you think?

Have you seen this video/ad?
Have you decided who you will vote for this Fall?
Here is a You Tube clip sent to me by a friend.

Watch "Test of Fire: Election 2012 (Official HD Version - Catholic)"

Watch "Test of Fire:  Election 2012 (Official HD Version - Evangelical, Protestant)"

So what did you think?
Did you notice the difference in the two videos?

I know I've tried to keep this blog "low-key" and not have a political stance on here.  As my parents have always said "to keep a friendly conversation steer away from Religion and Politics."

This one will throw that advice out the window.... but this morning I'm feeling a bit "daring".

We all have our opinions so lets not be down on anyone who has a different opinion than our own - remember that differing opinions is part of what makes this country the great country that it is.  We all get to express our opinions and not worry about being "prosecuted" .....

Easy White Sauce Starter Mix

I found this new website Hillbilly Housewife that has some really awesome ideas to make those "store must haves" like that usually have a ton of salt or preservatives.   She has some great easy ways to make your own.  Here are some I can't wait to try.

Keep this white sauce mix base on hand for easy sauces that are great for changing up your meals without going crazy with storing lots of "stuff"

White Sauce Mix Base
  • 2 cups instant nonfat dry milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup butter, margarine or shortening

In a large bowl mix well dry milk, flour and salt.
With pastry blender or 2 knives cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs.

Store in an airtight container.  I'm going to put this in another one of those great Tupperware Modular Mate Containers.
If using butter, store in the refrigerator.
If using margarine or shortening, will keep on the shelf in dry weather for up to 6 months.

I'm going to make this with my Tupperware Quick Chef Pro so that I can easily mix everything together and get the "fat" cut in easily without any problems.

White Sauce
In a small saucepan combine
  • 1/2 cup White Sauce Mix Base
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper.

Stir over low heat until smooth and hot.
Makes about 1 1/2 cups.

Cheese Sauce
Add 3/4 cup shredded cheese after your White Sauce thickens.

Curry Sauce
Add 1 teaspoon curry powder to your thickened White Sauce.

Alfredo Sauce
Make White Sauce from White Sauce Mix. To every 1/2 cup White Sauce add
  • 2 to 4 cloves garlic, pressed,
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
  • 1 cup light cream.

To cooked and drained hot pasta, add Alfredo Sauce ingredients, one by one, mixing and tossing well after each addition. Serve immediately.

Mac and Cheese
Combine
  • 1/2 cup White Sauce Mix,
  • 1/2 cup grated Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk.

Pour over hot, drained, elbow macaroni. Toss well.

Sisters are Forever ....

 Time Passes .....

 Life happens.....

 Distance separates.....

 Children grow up.....

 Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do...

 Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.....

BUT.....Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach...

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end...

Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you....or come in and carry you out. Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters....

Daughter-in-laws, sisters, sister-in-laws, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life!

The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I.

When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead.

Nor did we know how much we would need each other. Every day, we need each other still.

There are more than twenty angels in this world.
Ten are peacefully sleeping on clouds.
Nine are playing.
And one is reading this right at this very moment.
Thanks for visiting and being one of my "sisters"

Life is too Short

Sometimes I thinks we all need a reminder.

I also like the saying I heard a few years ago, when a group of us were talking about some of the difficulties that we were facing.  It just seemed like the difficult times just were not going to end.  Someone in our group, I really wish I could remember who, started a gathering with this.  It became our "theme" song for quite a while  ......

It's not that life is too short;
It's that death is too damn LONG.

Garlic and Pecan Chicken

Did you pick up one of the Tupperware Stack Cooker Systems that were on sale for the month of September?  If not hurry on over to my Tupperware site with your credit card and pick one up before Sept 28th at midnight, when the sale is finished and October will begin....

Anyway, IF you did pick it up I found another wonderful recipe that you can make with the Tupperware Stack Cooker.  I have to say I haven't tried making it, yet, but I bet this would be a wonderful Sunday Supper!   This one was found in a Better Homes & Garden Special Edition Recipe Magazine from 2009 (yes I have LOTS of these type of magazines I've saved), that I modified for the microwave and our StackCooker.

Garlic and Pecan Chicken
  • Whole Chicken, 3 - 4 lbs
  • 6 cloves Garlic, sliced
  • 2/3 cup finely chopped Pecans
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 1 TBSP fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme crushed)
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Prepare chicken (rinse/clean) for cooking.  Make small slits in chicken breast and put sliced garlic in each slit.  Put chicken into 3 qt casserole, breast up.  Combine Pecans, Butter, Thyme, Salt and Pepper is a small bowl (after melting butter in micro pitcher from set would be a great place to combine all this).  Pat this mixture on top of chicken.
Cover chicken and place in microwave.  Microwave for 7 minutes per pound.  Let rest, cover on for 5 minutes.  Chicken is done, when juices run clear, and temperature is 170 °F (for white meat) and 180°F (for dark meat).
As I said, this sounds really good and I bet you can change out the Pecans for another type of nut, but I think this would also make some really flavorful "leftovers" to use in a number of recipes that call for "cooked" chicken.  I am looking for some of those to share as well.
Until then, if you didn't get your Stack Cooker from Tupperware .... hurry to my Tupperware site, the sale is only good for 3 more days!  Then it goes up almost $50!  Still a great price for what you get, but hey if you can get one for under $90 (before tax and shipping) then you would be ahead of the game, right?

Homemade Cream of "whatever" Soup

I was looking for recipes for some of those "prepackaged" convenience things I use all the time (you may too) and stumbled upon a really neat website called Hillbilly Housewife.

I am getting my pantry in order with my Tupperware Containers and trying to not buy so many "prepackaged" goods.  Here is one that could be great as a soup itself or as an ingredient in a casserole or such.  Hillbilly Housewife calls it the
Cream of Anything Soup Mix

  • 4 c. powdered milk
  • 1 1/2 c. cornstarch
  • 1/2 c. instant chicken bouillon granules *
  • 4 tsp. dried onion flakes
  • 2 tsp. dried thyme
  • 2 tsp basil – crushed dried
  • 1 tsp. pepper
 * For a vegetarian version of this soup, use vegetable broth bullion instead.

Measure all ingredients and pour them into a container with an airtight seal, like a Tupperware Modular Mate container, but a larger freezer bag will work as well.   Be sure to label your container.

To Use The Mix:
Combine 1/3 cup of the mix with 1 cup of water and heat it over medium low heat in a small saucepan until it starts to thicken. This is the equivalent of one can of soup.

I can see some cubed chicken, or steamed veggies added to this to make some great soup for a chilly afternoon or even a late night quick supper.  I am going to try this recipe using leftover chicken (from my Stack Cooker Monday night dinner) in the Tupperware Vented Soup Cup.

Remember you can always get the great Tupperware products noted here at my Tupperware page or you can send me an email and I will get you set up so you can be creating wonderful meals in a matter of days.

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions--and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else--the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you
.
"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first--the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Turkey Tenderloin with Sage Pesto

I'm always looking for something "different" to make for dinners.  When I saw this one I thought it was a winner!  I love that you can make a nice turkey dinner at any time of the year.  I love that you don't have to wait for a holiday - this great meal could be your week night special.  I know I will be looking at this for something different in our weekly/monthly meals.  I may even try to "change it up" with chicken instead of turkey tenderloins.

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 lbs small red potatoes
  • 3 garlic cloves (peeled)
  • 3 tbsp of toasted pine nuts
  • 1/4 cup fresh sage leaves
  • 3 tbsp fresh grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/4 tsp kosher salt, divided
  • 1/2 tsp pepper, divided
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 12 oz turkey tenderloin
  • 2/3 cup 2% milk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (or margarine)

Place potatoes in the 3 qt Casserole of the Stack Cooker with 1 cup water.  Slice 2 garlic cloves in half and put into casserole with potatoes.  Cover and microwave for 8 minutes on high.

As the potatoes cook, put 1 clove garlic and pine nuts into base of Smooth Chopper and process until finely chopped.  Add sage leaves, Parmesan, 1/4 tsp each salt and pepper, process until combined.  Add olive oil and process until completely combined.

Place turkey in the Colander and spread 2 tbsp of pesto on top of tenderloin.  Remove Stack Cooker from microwave, carefully lift cover and stack Colander on top of  Casserole.   Cover and microwave for another 9 minutes.  When cooking is complete, allow turkey to rest, covered, for 5 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees and juices run clear.

While turkey rests, put milk and butter into 2 cup micro pitcher and microwave on high for 1 minute.  Drain potatoes, leaving them in the casserole.  Pour heated milk and butter mixture over potatoes, and carefully mash..

Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce Review & Giveaway

I love doing food and food product reviews.  I always seem to find something good to try that even my "picky" family likes to eat.  They may not think so at first, but I have yet to find something they don't like and The Original County Bob's All Purpose Sauce was definitely a winner here.

I loved that their website, Country Bob's Online, had quite a few recipes to get you started.  I also love that County Bob took years to perfect his sauce - it wasn't until 1968 that he had that "eureka" moment and just knew this was HIS dream sauce.

The company became a company in October of 1982 after selling his sauce to family and friends and seekers of a good sauce to go with all kinds of meals for about 5 years.  The sauce he created back in 1968 is still the sauce that is sold today.  They have added to their products with BBQ sauce and Seasoning salts, but the tried and true All Purpose Sauce still remains today - and in my opinion will be available for sale for many many years to come.

I've used this sauce for chicken and pork dishes and the other day for a stove-top meat patty - not quite a hamburger, not quite a meatloaf that I threw together at the last minute (yes I was running late) with rice.  Hubby thought this was great!  It gave the patties with the onions a little bit of a smoky caramel taste but not really sweet.  I hope that makes sense - it was a really nice taste with the beef.

I have to say I will be looking for more of this sauce so that I can try more of those recipes on their website, as well as trying it on/in/with more of my own creations.  I'm thinking about a meatloaf right now that I think would be AWESOME.

One of the things I really liked about this sauce is that it was a good compliment to all the meats I used it on/with.  You didn't just taste the sauce, like you can with some others, it wasn't overpowering.  Just the right balance has been created with this sauce, that I bet you will like too.

Country Bob's has generously offered a giveaway to my readers.  This giveaway will give 2 of my readers 2 of the same bottles I received.   Giveaway is open to US readers and will close on October 2nd - so 2 of you will get a present for my birthday!  Pretty nice of  me and Country Bob's.

Just use the Rafflecopter Form Below for the ultra easy way to enter this great giveaway.  If Rafflecopter doesn't appear in a few seconds, refresh and it should be right here.  Sometimes Rafflecopter "hiccups" and needs a little help.  But we love them.

International Talk like a Pirate Day

Did you know that today was an "International" Holiday?

Have you ever heard of Talk like a Pirate Day?

I know I never had ---- I guess I've been living under a rock or something --- since today was named International Talk like a Pirate Day for more than 10 years now!

Back in 1995, after an injury that caused his voice to "change" as a reaction to the pain.  Ok so it was when he was reacting to being hit with a racketball he said "Aaaarrrr", and the idea was born.

And of course I missed the reference in the Harry Potter Series where  Hermione Granger's birthday is on the same day as "Talk Like a Pirate Day," and the jokes about the Hogwarts student trading in her wizarding education for a piracy career.

So instead of saying Good morning or Hello today we should all say "Ahoy Mateys".

What do you think?

Sometimes I think that we have this little nagging person living inside our heads. I know you know what I mean. It's that little self doubt that usually jumps down and sits on your shoulder, whispering into your ear, making you think that you can't do something, or you're not good enough, just when we want or need to do something that is important.

I think this is a perfect reminder that will be printed out and framed for my wall. Even the most self assured person needs a little extra "push" from time to time. This is perfect!
