Artificial vs Real Trees

Where do you stand on this debate?
What kind of tree do you have?

Personally I have an artificial tree, but I do know many folks that have "real" trees.  Some of those with "real" trees are cut trees, others have "balled" trees so that they can replant them after the season.  We did have one of those balled trees years and years ago and replanted it.  One of the things I didn't like about that was that we had to get it into the ground much too early for me.  It was within days of Christmas, as I remember, so we didn't get to enjoy our Christmas tree.  Oh and unfortunately I don't think it lasted more than a few years.  Perhaps that was because we live in the Northeast.

One of the things I found interesting though, is that we really aren't alone or different in getting an artificial tree.
The folks at TreeClassics shared some interesting graphics with me.  Since they are celebrating their 40th year I would think they have some idea what they are talking about.

There are more than 61% of households that are doing the same as we do - having an artificial tree for the Christmas holidays.  What I did find interesting though is where artificial trees have been purchased.

I bought my last tree online and couldn't be happier with it.  I had replaced my "original" tree after ... are you ready? ... 33 years!  I had originally purchased that tree from a Home Improvement Store after Christmas when they had decent things remaining after Christmas.

If you are thinking about doing an artificial tree this year, or if you have taken your last years tree out of the closet and think it should have been replaced ... check out TreeClassics.com.  If you remember, they sponsored one of my giveaways here.

Just to add a little more frivolity to the post, check out Santa.

Merry Christmas to all ...

I don't have time for a real tree, nor do I want to worry about a fire. So I am an artificial tree person, playing it safe.

We do a fake one, and I love it! I'm grateful it's not messy, and that it doesn't require watering (and it's pre-lit).

We have had a fake tree for years now. The last real one that I bought years ago dried out so fast. The needles were everywhere, no thanks to that anymore.

I miss a real tree but we do artificial, it is just easier.

We have artificial!! Its way easier and less upkeep, plus less of a fire hazard!!

I am partial to a real tree but have a small artificial tree because I live in an apartment. I think they're all beautiful and it's totally up to the person which to have. :)

WE have had both. The real trees smell nice but they shed so many pine needles. I have to vacuum all the time! I mostly have real trees because of family traditions.

When I was really little we had a real tree every year for a few years. And I remember the kind of magic as child you felt going to the twinkly lit lot to pick one out. But I also remember the needles in my feet that would sometimes fall. I use an artificial tree now and I have no regrets as I don't have children to give that magical christmas tree lot memory to. Also, I have my mom's old artificial tree and there is something kind of sweet to that.

All the years I grew up we had an artificial tree. My parents had bought it from Sears as that was the place to go in our town for any high end items :) Since their passing, I've had an artificial tree also but I don't remember where I got it. Probably at Walmart, lol I did win an artificial one a couple years ago. It's pretty small but I like it because it has LED lights on it. I just put the ornaments I want on it :)

We always had a real tree growing up, but for the past 12 years of our 28 years of marriage, we have had an artificial tree & I do love that I don't have a lot of vacuuming to do because of all the pine needles from a real tree! I do miss the scent of the tree though!

I love real trees and I live in an area where they grow and ship Christmas trees all over the world. It's kinda nice being so close you can go to the tree farms and pick your own to cut.

We have 5 cats so we haven't bothered with a tree in about 6 years. But I do have 4 artificial trees stashed around the house...lol

I have cats and if I put up a real tree she is climbing it, so I put up a artificial so she cant climb it

I have my parents old artificial tree. It was pre-lit, but it isn't anymore. That's fine, it still has a lot of life left in it. We had a real tree a few times when my kids were younger. They liked it, but I'm not a fan of sneezing non-stop. Artificial is just easier all around for me to deal with.

I love real trees but they just don't last long enough.

I'm in the 22% of no tree.

I like real trees except they are very messy and the lights can be dangerous when they get old.

I much prefer a real tree, but with advancing age it just isn't practical. I have my artificial tree but I'm thinking of getting a smaller one for the future.

we get a real tree but this year the cost was high and they are messy. next year we are thinking of an artificial one

I love the ease of a artificial tree, but the smell of a natural tree used to be so nice! Do they still smell nice?

I prefer a real tree and support our local farmers by using a tree farm. We cut down our own tree, which has been a nice family tradition and great family quality time.

Our family now and when I was a child has always went for the artificial tree. So I never really thought about any other kind of tree than that. I think we go with the ease and cost of the artificial tree versus the real

When we were first married, we had a real tree, hubby loved them. For years, I want a silver tree and after many years we got one. Since then, hubby has agreed that fake trees are less work and easier :)

Artificial trees for me, less mess but, I love the smell of a real tree.
