More Email Tips and Tricks

I just love when my email has interesting yet helpful information. Here are more tips that I got from on office. They are such helpful people!

Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little "stringy things" off of it. That's how the primates do it.

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in a double boiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummm!

Reheat Pizza Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy.. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

Easy Deviled Eggs - Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Expanding Frosting - When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size.. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster

Broken Glass - Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

No More Mosquitoes - Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

Squirrel Away! - To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper.. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Flexible vacuum - To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Reducing Static Cling - Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing pantyhose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ... ta da! .. static is gone.

Measuring Cups - Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

Foggy Windshield? - Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the window s fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

Reopening envelope - If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

Conditioner - Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

Goodbye Fruit Flies - To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants - Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home," can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS
The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.)
He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material ... I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. Well ... the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit.
You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free ... that nice fragrance too. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box ... well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen..

This is also what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it!
He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower)is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush)at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that!?! Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that.

So, I thought I'd share!

Absolutely wonderful product

I will be honest, I do not remember exactly how I stumbled onto Vocalpoint, but I am so glad I did. They are part of or related to Procter & Gamble family. I do love P&G products, although I don't use them exclusively, I do have a very large supply of their products throughout my home.

Funny story - well its funny to me. When I first moved into my home (28 years ago) I pretty much had to set up everything from scratch - dear hubby didn't bring anything with him. Since he was a volunteer fireman in town, a lot of our friends were fireman and their wives. They had always made me feel comfortable, but really made me feel welcome when I left my family and moved into the town. For the Christmas Holidays, I decided that we should have a party for everyone to show my appreciation. Most of the men worked for P&G - just not my hubby, and at one point everyone was in my kitchen going through the cabinets, if it was a P&G product much cheering erupted and if the product wasn't ........ they decided it needed to be thrown out. Thankfully there was more cheering then anything else. Hence part of my love for P&G products.

Ok back to my reason for loving VocalPoint .... last week I received a box from Vocalpoint that had a fabulous product - the Bounce Dryer Bar. It smells AMAZING. I put it in my dryer almost immediately and have been using it ever since. It attaches to the drum and works its magic every time you use your dryer. No need to dryer sheets that ALWAYS seem to be on the floor in front of the dryer (somehow NO ONE picks them up) but your clothes have the wonderful dryer sheet smell/freshness/anti-staticness (ok is that a word?).

If you would like to test products or see what's new / coming to stores sign up to be a member of Vocalpoint. I don't think you will be disappointed, I know I haven't been.

Isaiah 65:24

I received this in my email this morning. I wonder if there is something coming into my life that I need to be reminded of this.

It continues to be a reminder that God knows our needs before we do!!

This beautiful story was written by a doctor who worked in Central Africa .

One night I had worked hard to help a mother in the labor ward; but in spite of all we could do, she died, leaving us with a tiny, premature baby and a crying two-year-old daughter. We would have difficulty keeping the baby alive; as we had no incubator (we had no electricity to run an incubator). We also had no special feeding facilities. Although we lived on the equator, nights were often chilly with treacherous drafts.

One student midwife went for the box we had for such babies and the cotton wool that the baby would be wrapped in. Another went to stoke up the fire and fill a hot water bottle. She came back shortly in distress to tell me that in filling the bottle, it had burst (rubber perishes easily in tropical climates). 'And it is our last hot water bottle!' she exclaimed. As in the West, it is no good crying over spilled milk, so in Central Africa it might be considered no good crying over burst water bottles. They do not grow on trees, and there are no drugstores down forest pathways.

'All right,' I said, 'put the baby as near the fire as you safely can, and sleep between the baby and the door to keep it free from drafts. Your job is to keep the baby warm.

The following noon, as I did most days, I went to have prayers with any of the orphanage children who chose to gather with me. I gave the youngsters various suggestions of things to pray about and told them about the tiny baby. I explained our problem about keeping the baby warm enough, mentioning the hot water bottle, and that the baby could so easily die if it got chills. I also told them of the two-year-old sister, crying because her mother had died.

During prayer time, one ten-year-old girl, Ruth, prayed with the usual blunt conciseness of our African children. 'Please, God' she prayed, 'Send us a hot water bottle today. It'll be no good tomorrow, God, as the baby will be dead, so please send it this afternoon. While I gasped inwardly at the audacity of the prayer, she added, 'And while You are about it, would You please send a dolly for the little girl so she'll know You really love her? As often with children's prayers, I was put on the spot. Could I honestly say 'Amen'? I just did not believe that God could do this. Oh, yes, I know that He can do everything; the Bible says so. But there are limits, aren't there? The only way God could answer this particular prayer would be by sending me a parcel from the homeland. I had been in Africa for almost four years at that time, and I had never, ever, received a parcel from home Anyway, if anyone did send me a parcel, who would put in a hot water bottle? I lived on the equator!

Halfway through the afternoon, while I was teaching in the nurses' training school, a message was sent that there was a car at my front door. By the time I reached home, the car had gone, but there on the porch was a large 22-pound parcel. I felt tears pricking my eyes. I could not open the parcel alone, so I sent for the orphanage children.. Together we pulled off the string, carefully undoing each knot. We folded the paper, taking care not to tear it unduly... excitement was mounting. Some thirty or forty pairs of eyes were focused on the large cardboard box.

From the top, I lifted out brightly-colored, knitted jerseys. Eyes sparkled as I gave them out. Then there were the knitted bandages for the leprosy patients, and the children looked a little bored. Then came a box of mixed raisins and sultanas - that would make a batch of buns for the weekend. Then, as I put my hand in again, I felt the...could it really be? I grasped it and pulled it out. Yes, a brand new, rubber hot water bottle. I cried. I had not asked God to send it; I had not truly believed that He could. Ruth was in the front row of the children. She rushed forward, crying out, 'If God has sent the bottle, He must have sent the dolly, too!' Rummaging down to the bottom of the box, she pulled out the small, beautifully-dressed dolly. Her eyes shone! She had never doubted! Looking up at me, she asked, 'Can I go over with you and give this dolly to that little girl, so she'll know that Jesus really loves her? 'Of course,' I replied!

That parcel had been on the way for five whole months, packed up by my former Sunday school class, whose leader had heard and obeyed God's prompting to send a hot water bottle, even to the equator. And one of the girls had put in a dolly for an African child - five months before, in answer to the believing prayer of a ten-year-old to bring it 'that afternoon'.

'Before they call, I will answer.'

When you receive this, say the prayer. That's all you have to do. No strings attached. Just send it on to whomever you want - but do send it on. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. There is no cost, but a lot of rewards.

Let's continue praying for one another.. This awesome prayer takes less than a minute.

Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless my friends reading this. I ask You to minister to their spirit. Where there is pain, give them Your peace and mercy. Where there is self doubting, release a renewed confidence to work through them. Where there is tiredness or exhaustion, I ask You to give them understanding, guidance, and strength. Where there is fear, reveal Your love and release to them Your courage. Bless their finances, give them greater vision, and raise up leaders and friends to support and encourage them. Give each of them discernment to recognize the evil forces around them and reveal to them the power they have in You to defeat it. I ask You to do these things in Jesus' name. Amen.

Passing this on to anyone you consider a friend will bless you both.
Passing this on to one not considered a friend is something Christ would do.

Does this woman have it all together or what?

I love these - but number 45 is the best!

Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written."

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When i t comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26.. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come.

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Brain Training Review & Giveaway!

Need help learning? Have you ever felt "dumb" or heard your child say they can't learn something because they are "dumb"? Does your child have one of the many learning differences that EVERYONE seems to know at least 1 person that has been identified as having? ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia or one of so many others? This looks like a fantastic program - and 3 months will be free if you are the winner.

My daughter was finally (after years of my saying this to school "professionals") identified as being dyslexic during her Sophomore year in high school. Now of course they said she is not a "classic" dyslexic, which is one of the reasons it was so hard to identify. She just finished her freshman year at college - and by the grace of God and LOTS of hard work - with a 3.0 gpa. She has learned a lot of ways to cope - but I think this would be wonderful for her.

So I've entered into this wonderful giveaway. Check it out and see - could be a wonderful thing for you or someone you know.

What to do with all those fresh fruit finds .......

Ok the other day I was asking for help on what to do with all this fruit (strawberries) that my MIL picked. Well she told me tonight she is going back again tomorrow - so guess I'll have even more to deal with.........but I think I am ready.

I found this great recipe/idea for a mixed berry sauce at Cooking during Stolen Moments here mixed-berry-sauce.

I am definitely going to try this one so that all these berries don't go bad - THAT would be a sin!

Check it out - lots of great recipes and ideas located here not just the berry sauce. I'm going to be visiting often I'm sure.

Strawberries Anyone?

HELP!!!!

I need some suggestions on what to do with a "mess"of strawberries. My MIL dropped off a flat box FULL of strawberries that she picked this afternoon.

I don't want to just freeze them - so I need some suggestions. Oh and to add to the difficulty - I still don't have my oven fixed (it was 1 month Monday) so all I have is my toaster oven.

Ok I'm up for any suggestion ....

Edited to note - I do have a stove - its the oven part that is "broken". I am hoping that the last part will be in sometime this week so it can be actually fixed next week.

I have been cooking this past month using the stove (burner part), my toaster oven and my outdoor gas grill. So I can cook - baking has to be small (toaster oven) though

Baking Soda - 20 Uses

As you may know (I think I told you here) that I am going through all the magazines I have "accumulated" to cute out the stuff I want to save and recycle the rest. Anyway here's one I found that I love cause I ALWAYS have baking soda around

1) Puts out grease fires. Scatter baking soda over fire by the handfuls to extinguish flame.
2) Absorb Odors. Use in your refrigerator, freezer, basement, make a sachet for your car - a whole lot less expensive than some of those car air fresheners they sell.
3) Clean your dishwasher and coffeemaker by running an empty cycle with baking soda added
4) Home Spa Treatment. Add 1/2 cup to your bath.
5) Polish Jewelry. Make a paste with water and baking soda - safe for silver and gold
6) Add to kitty litter. Put baking soda in bottom of litter box, cover with litter - minimum smells
7) Bug bites, Sunburn & Poison Ivy. Instant relief - mix baking soda with water to make a paste and apply to sore.
8) Fluffier omelet - add 1/2 teaspoon for every 3 eggs
9) Unclog a drain. 1 cup baking soda poured into drain. Add 1 cup hot vinegar to quickly unclog drain.
10) Fight dandruff. Instead of shampoo for a few weeks, massage your wet scalp with a handful of baking soda. Rinse and let dry.
11) Gargle with baking soda and water or use it as a mouthwash.
12) Soak toothbrushes in 1/4 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup water. Let sit overnight.
13) Make your own kitty litter. Mix 1 small box of baking soda with 3 inches of sandy clay.
14) Brush your pets teeth (and yours - just don't use the same brush :D)
15) Scatter baking soda on icy sidewalks - its not as corrosive as salt
16) Discourage weeds - sprinkle baking soda into cracks in your driveway and sidewalks.
17) Surround dog food bowls with baking soda to keep pests away
18) Use baking soda to scrub the sink and tub.
19) Create your own antacid. Mix 1/2 teaspoon with 1/2 cup of water.
